THE WEALTH OF ITALIAN WINE “IS BASED ON THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT, EXPERTISE OF THE PRODUCERS, EXCELLENCE OF THE RAW MATERIAL AND THE TERRITORY”, ACCORDING TO THE MINISTER OF ECONOMY CARLO PADOAN, INTERVIEWED BY WINENEWS IN MONTALCINO

WineNews interviewed the Minister of Economy, Carlo Padoan in Montalcino, who said Italian wine represents the wealth of Italian economy as “it is based on the quality of the product, expertise of the producers, excellence of the raw material and the territory”. The territory of Montalcino is one of the most important for Italian wine and it is where, for example, together with Barolo, one hectare of vineyard, in 50 years, has been revaluated 4.405%.

“There is really nothing similar in other sectors of the economy. The wine sector demonstrates the potential of high-quality Italian agriculture”, said Padoan, “and the government has paid close attention to it and supported it with significant tax deductions”.
People who are living on agriculture, especially in high added value areas, which are the most important wine areas in Italy, often the integration aspect is higher than the average. For instance, in the Brunello di Montalcino territory people have come from 70 countries to live and work, and the presence of foreigners is 16.51% of the total population, which is twice the Italian average (8.4%), according to a WineNews analysis.

“This is another very positive sign”, said Padoan, on stage at Benvenuto Brunello 2018, “and a further confirmation that our country”, not only economically, but also culturally and socially, “has great potential that has been somewhat suppressed by the crisis, but now that we are out of the crisis, we must continue in this direction”.
