SASSICAIA 2013, ORNELLAIA 2013, SOLAIA 2013, TIGNANELLO 2013 AND I SODI DI SAN NICCOLÒ 2012 ARE THE FIVE TOP ITALIAN RED WINES ON THE SPECIAL "TOP 100" BY "GENTLEMAN" (PUBLISHED BY CLASS EDITORI) VOTED BY ITALIAN AND WORLD CRITICS

Sassicaia 2013, Ornellaia 2013, Solaia 2013, Tignanello 2013 and I Sodi di San Niccolò 2012, are the five absolute top Italian red wines, according to the special "Top 100" ranking by "Gentleman", the monthly magazine published by Class Editori. Six major Italian guides voted the wines ("Wines of Italy" by Gambero Rosso, "I Vini di Veronelli" of the Permanent Seminar by Luigi Veronelli, "Bibenda" the Italian Sommelier Foundation - FIS, the "Essential Guide to the Wines of Italy" by Daniele Cernilli, "Vitae – The guide to wine 2017" Italian Sommelier Association Guide - Ais and "Yearbook of the best Italian wines" by Luca Maroni) and there were also the rankings of "Wine Spectator", "The Wine Advocate" and James Suckling, three foreign voices that “have particular weight in the evaluation of wines from around the world,” said a note.

In the "Top 100" ranking voted by Italian guides only, using the same criteria, the top five are: Bolgheri Sassicaia 2013; Primitivo di Manduria ES 2014 (Gianfranco Fino); San Leonardo 2011 (Tenuta San Leonardo); tied for fourth place Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia 2013 and Kurni 2014 (Oasi degli Angeli) and tied for fifth Tignanello 2013, I Sodi di San Niccolò 2012 and Solaia 2013.

“This year, six Italian guides were cross-referenced, since the Espresso guide has chosen three rankings for value only, abandoning the traditional scoring system. Out of the top ten wines on the Top 100 list, compiled according to these guides, only five wines were evaluated by the three world-renowned foreign critics, and the sum has created the absolute ranking”, explained "Gentleman".

Among the "Top 100" best wineries, pointed out the monthly, 13 have two wines in the ranking: Accordini, Borgogno, Caprai, Castello del Terriccio, Domini Castellare di Castellina, Gaja, Giacosa, La Valentina, Marchesi Antinori, Marchesi di Barolo , Piaggia, Poggio al Tesoro and Velenosi.

Tuscany is the big star on the ranking as it boasts eight wines in the top ten positions. Bolgheri, Superiore Grattamacco 2013 Grattamacco is in seventh position, Masseto 2013 in ninth and Duemani 2013 Duemani at number ten. Even in the second 10 positions there are several Tuscan wines: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010 Canalicchio di Sopra, Lupicaia 2012 Il Castello del Terriccio, Dedicato a Walter 2013 of Poggio al Tesoro (Allegrini), Sapaio 2013 Podere Sapaio, Guado al Tasso 2013 of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, Nobile di Montepulciano il Nocio 2012 Boscarelli, Poggio de Colli 2014 Piaggia and Maremma Toscana Baffo Nero 2014 Rocca di Frassinello.

Tuscany and Piedmont are the regions with the highest number of wines in the Top 100, respectively, 36 and 21. Then follow Le Marche and Veneto, six each and Campania, five.
