GIRO D’ITALIA AND ITALIAN WINE ARE STILL PASSIONATE ABOUT EACH OTHER. 2017 MARKS THE 100TH EDITION OF THE “CORSA ROSA” WITH " SAGRANTINO TIME TRIAL", BETWEEN FOLIGNO AND MONTEFALCO, IN THE HEART OF UMBRIAN WINE COUNTRY.

A great bike race in stages is a bit like a grape harvest. The preparation lasts months and months and then, in just a few weeks everything is decided. It is probably because of this "association" (as well as the beauty of the territories and their investability, ed.) that the Giro d’Italia, one of the most important and fascinating races on the world cycling scene, has for the last few years paid homage to the top Italian wine areas and will continue to do so in in 2017 for its 100th edition. The presentation of the Giro will take place on October 25th in Milan and it is virtually certain that May 16th is the date for the "Sagrantino Time Trial", a stage dedicated to the most prestigious and among the most loved Umbrian wines in Italy (confirming WineNews Rumors, https://goo.gl/VTlnLI).
The race will probably start in Foligno, "lu centru de lu munnu" (the center of the world) as they call Foligno, and arrive in the main square of Montefalco, in the capital of the Sagrantino wine area. The area was launched after the recovery of this historic grape variety, thanks to the "long sprint "(to keep with cycling terms) by Arnaldo Caprai, who first invested in research and promotion of the territory, bringing Sagrantino di Montefalco to the "Olympus” of wines in the world.
This new "Wine Time Trial" of the "Corsa Rosa" comes after the "Chianti Classico Stage" in 2016 (the first stage in the history of the Giro to take on the name of a wine appellation), rode through the "Black Rooster" vineyards), the "Prosecco Time Trial" in 2015, between Treviso and Valdobbiadene and the trial between Barolo and Barbaresco in 2014, confirming a new tradition for the now "secular" race, organized by RCS.
The race will visit all of Italy (starting May 5th, as already officially announced, in the Sardinia Region, hosting the first three stages of the race, and the arrival on May 28th should be in Rome, www.giroditalia. it), and will touch many other areas painted by vineyards and bathed in wine.
