THE TOP WINE MUSEUMS IN THE WORLD, BY "THE DRINK BUSINESS". IN ITALY, ONCE AGAIN, THE LUNGAROTTI FOUNDATION "MUVIT-WINE MUSEUM" IN TORGIANO, NEXT TO "WIMU", THE FUTURISTIC WINE MUSEUM IN BAROLO

Where are the finest wine museums in the world? The famous UK magazine "The Drink Business" compiled a top ten list. In Italy, once again, the Lungarotti Foundation "Muvit-Wine Museum" in Torgiano satisfies the “taste for the art, culture and history of wine in the Italian region of Umbria”. Next to Muvit, already crowned by "The New York Times" as "Best in Italy", the futuristic Wine Museum"WiMu", founded more recently, in a Castle in Barolo. From Bordeaux in France to Porto in Portugal, Briones in the Rioja in Spain, Santa Rosa in California, Macau in China, Santorini in Greece, the British magazine’s "wonderland list" is a round the wine world trip of the most beautiful places that preserve the history and traditions of wine culture in the international "capitals".
The Lungarotti Foundation, established in 1987 at the request of George and Maria Grazia Lungarotti, owns Muvit (founded in 1974, and managed with the Moo-Olive and Oil Museum, also in Torgiano; www.lungarotti.it). The museum narrates 5.000 years of history in more than 3.000 exhibits, including art collections of cups, mugs, pitchers, drinking vessels, pottery, and ceramics from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque up to contemporary era, in an impressive themed collection.
There are also ethnographic collections (27 works from the collection are on display at "Wine - A Taste of Italy", the wine pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan, in partnership with Veronafiere). Maria Grazia Marchetti Lungarotti, director of the Foundation and creator of Muvit, said, “The Drinks Business listing rewards our commitment to maintain the memory and the spread of the wine culture. We deeply feel the responsibility that we have pursued for more than 40 years, of preserving a heritage that tells the story of our civilization”.
The "WiMu" was founded more recently, created by François Confino, and since 2010 has occupied the halls of the Falletti Castle in Barolo. (www.wimubarolo.it).
In addition to the two Italian wine museums, the UK magazine also lists among the finest in the world, the Musée du Vin et du Négoce in Bordeaux, the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum in Santorini, The California Wine Museum, which will open its doors in 2016 in Santa Rosa Desmond Castle and the International Museum of Wine Exhibition in Cork, Ireland, the Wine Museum of Macau, the Museu do Vinho Porto, the Museum of Wine of Pleven in Bulgaria, the Vivanco Museum in Briones, and the Cité des Civilisations du Vin Bordeaux which will open its doors in 2016.
