FRENCH EAT MORE PIZZATHAN ITALIANS ACCORDING TO "LE PARISIEN”. THE FRENCH MAKE MORE THAN 809 MILLION PIZZAS A YEAR – AN AVERAGE OF 5 KG PER PERSON. MORE THAN THE ITALIANS, BUT LESS THAN THE AMERICANS

The French eat more pizza than the Italians. According to data from the Gira Conseil Institute published by the newspaper "Le Parisien", our “cousins across the Alps” make 809 million pizzas a year, which is over 323 tons of the product, on average 5kg per capita, more than the pizzas eaten in Italy, but a little less than in America.

“In France, pizza is undoubtedly a mass product that corresponds to our eating habits” said Lorene Avedikian, who led the study, “meals are moments of sharing. Pizza is a food to share and corresponds to our culture. The French are among the largest consumers in the world of pizza”.
Consumption in France has increased 1.2 % in 2014 over 2013, but the French still are attached to their traditions. The classic baguette with ham and butter is still the star of the foods consumed, ahead of pizza and burgers, also due to cost: 2.74 euros on average (1.05% increase compared to 2013) against 10.54 euros for pizza (+ 2.90%).
