AFTER BORDEAUX, CALIFORNIA AND AUSTRALIA, PLUS A VERY SMALL TRANSACTION IN CHIANTI, IS CHINESE CAPITAL COMING TO THE HEART OF TUSCAN WINE? "CHINESE GROUPS READY TO CONQUER BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO", WRITES CARLO FESTA IN "THE SOLE 24 ORE".

For some time now, we have been seeing large or small delegations of Chinese businessmen in the catering or distribution sectors in this area. But until now the possibility of Asian investors in the great wineries of Brunello di Montalcino had been very slim. And, instead, at least for one company whose name has not been revealed, it seems negotiations would be at an advanced stage. At least according to rumors published in the newspaper " Il Sole 24 Ore" today by the journalist Carlo Festa, in an article entitled “Chinese groups ready to conquer Brunello di Montalcino”.
"The rumors come from the banks", the journalist told WineNews. On the other hand, the Chinese have been investing heavily in wine, and after having bought many chateau in Bordeaux, important wineries in California and Australia, and also a small estate in the Chianti Classico, it would be an important investment in one of the top Italian wine areas in the world, where the value of a hectare of vineyard, (estimates from different sources, from WineNews to the agency "Knight Frank") is between 300.000 and 500.000 Euros. And, it is one of those territories, according to the big players in U.S. real estate that has seen one of the best growth performances (20%) in recent years.
